How Big Were the Dinosaurs?

The goal for this lesson plan is to help students learn history about the Mesozoic Era and dinosaurs. Students will also learn new vocabulary words, such as, Paleontologist and some of Dinosaurs' name. Timeline will be included in this activity as well as a word cloud activity. Students will work individually. The main goal is to make this lesson fun and full of learning.

The lesson will star by the teacher showing the students a summarized video about the Mesozoic Era. Then, students will be able to create a timeline about the important events occurred in the Mesozoic Era. Teacher will show an example of what a timeline looks like. Timeline may be a hard copy, but students will also will to introduced an online version using Timetoast. Students will develop a KWL chart listing what they already know, what they already want to learn, and finally what they learned. A word cloud will also presented to the students to help them to get a better organize all the new words that they already learned. They will use Tagxedo to create their word cloud. At the end of the lesson, students should have a good understanding of history of dinosaurs and what was the Mesozoic Era. Let's start the adventure!

procedure
Activity A
- Engage the students by asking them questions of what they already know about dinosaurs. A KWL chart should be give to each student. Example of a KWL
- Students will answer the questions What I know and What I Want to Know from the KWL chart
- Then, the teacher will show a summarized video about Mesozoic Era. Dinosaurs an intro for kids
- After that, students will have to finish complete the KWL chart
- Students will create a timeline using Timetoast
- To help students become familiarized with timeline, the teacher will show several examples of timelines: Timelines
- Teacher will also show an example from YouTube, to give the students a better understanding of how to use Timetoast. How to use timetoast.
- Students will be given a rubric, that states the requirements needed for the Timeline. Timeline Rubric
- After the rubric, each group may proceed with there work on the timeline
- Then, the groups have finished their timeline, the teacher will make sure the timeline is following the guidelines on the rubric
- After Activity A
- Students will also create a word cloud using Tagxedo to organize all the new words learned.
- The teacher will show an example from YouTube, to give the students a better understanding of how to use Tagxedo. How to use tagxedo.
- Students will be given a rubric, that states the requirements needed for the word cloud. Word Cloud Rubric
- Then, the students have finished their timeline and word cloud, teacher will make sure the timeline and word cloud are following the guidelines on the rubric.
- Finally, an assessment will given to them to evaluate their progress

Students will be graded based on how well they present and develop their timelines and word clouds. Each student will be graded individually based on the rubrics and the final assessment for this lesson. Mesozoic Era Assessment

conclusion
At the end of this lesson, students were able to learn more about the Mesozoic Era and dinosaurs. They learned how big were the dinosaur. In addition, they were able to learn about technology tools and they learned at least ten new words. It was a pleasure to travel to the past with you. Never stop learning.
